At Heathfield House, we believe that children learn best through play.

Every activity is thoughtfully planned to encourage curiosity, creativity and confidence while supporting each child’s individual stage of development.

From splashing in muddy puddles and exploring the changing weather to building impressive towers in our construction area, every day is filled with exciting opportunities to learn through hands-on experiences.

Sensory Exploration

Children love discovering the world through their senses, which is why we provide a wide range of messy and sensory play activities. Whether they’re mixing dough, exploring gloop, playing with water and sand, baking, painting or creating with glue, every experience helps develop imagination, problem-solving skills and fine motor development.

Inspiring Curiosity

We encourage children to investigate, question and explore using real-life resources that spark their interest and imagination. Our little adventurers often bring in exciting treasures from their weekend adventures to share during circle time, helping to build confidence, communication skills and a love of storytelling.

Active Minds, Active Bodies

Physical activity is an important part of every child’s day. Our children regularly take part in yoga, dance and PE sessions, alongside plenty of outdoor play, helping to develop coordination, balance, confidence and a lifelong enjoyment of being active.

Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the national framework that guides the care, learning and development of children from birth to the end of their Reception year (age five).

At Heathfield House, the EYFS underpins everything we do. From your child’s first day with us through to the end of their Reception year at primary school, it provides a clear framework to support their learning, development and wellbeing.

Supporting Every Child’s Development

Our experienced team regularly observes and assesses each child’s progress across all areas of the EYFS. These observations are recorded in your child’s secure online Learning Journey, which begins as soon as they join us.

Parents and carers can access their child’s Learning Journey at any time to see their achievements, milestones and special moments. We also encourage families to contribute their own observations and experiences from home, helping us build a complete picture of each child’s development.

Learning Through Children’s Interests

We carefully plan activities around each child’s individual interests, strengths and stage of development. By following children’s natural curiosity and favourite ways to play, we create engaging learning experiences that support their next steps while making learning enjoyable, meaningful and fun.
